Urania (Costa) Vicente, affectionately known simply as Urania to those who knew her best, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025, at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital in North Providence. Born on December 14, 1928, in Sao Miguel, Azores, Urania was a beacon of love and faith throughout her 96 years.
The wife of the late Manuel Vicente, Urania was the cherished daughter of the late Jose and Maria (Travassos) Costa. She was a devoted mother to Emanuel Vicente of Tolland, CT, Paula Silva of North Providence, and Isabel Caldwell and her husband Steve of Warwick. She held a special place in her heart for her siblings, including her sister Alcina Lima of East Providence, and her sister-in-law Rose Costa. She was predeceased by her brothers Alfred Costa, Gil Costa, and sister Maria Ana Lima. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren Jessica, Erica, Brittany, Jared, and Joshua, and her adored great-grandchildren Brody, Quinn, Ava, and Capri. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Urania's life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family and her faith. For over 25 years, she worked diligently as an inspector at the Davol Rubber Company, where her keen eye and strong work ethic were greatly valued. She was a dedicated parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church.
Those who knew Urania will remember her for the joy she found in the simple pleasures of life. An excellent cook, she delighted in preparing meals for her loved ones. Her hands, always tending to the needs of others, also cultivated beauty in her garden.
Urania's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved her, yet they find solace in the rich tapestry of memories she leaves behind. Her spirit, characterized by her generosity and unwavering positivity, will continue to inspire and comfort her family and friends.
Urania's life was a journey of love, faith, and service, and she will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her story is not one of an end but a beautiful chapter in an enduring legacy that will be cherished and celebrated by her family and all whose lives she touched.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at 8:30am from the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Francis Xavier Church, 81 North Carpenter Street, East Providence. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 550 Wampanoag Trail, East Providence.
